Writer tiers and average price range
Determining what to pay your freelance writers is a crucial step in developing quality content. Too low, and you won’t get the quality you want. Too high, and you leave money on the table.

With that said, we’ve developed some guidelines.
Definition of writer tiers:
- Standard: Someone with 0-3 years of experience who is eager to build a portfolio.
- Professional: Someone with 3-5 years of experience with a solid portfolio of work.
- Expert: 5+ years of experience with some larger projects and clients and good references.
- Influencer: 7+ years of experience, a subject matter expert or influencer with a large following on social media or within the audience you are trying to reach.
Average price range per writer type:
(Ranges are based on a 500-700 word blog post, and will vary by industry/topic.)
- Standard: $40 - $75
- Professional: $80 - $225
- Expert: $225 - $750
- Influencer: $750+
